How do you return to your center

Should you even try?

How do you return to your center?

These days it’s easy to get pulled out of our center. This was my experience this week. Since the studio reopened, I’ve created my ten days workout to get back into spring resistance. Plus, I am rehabbing my shoulders; every movement counts. I planned to do a level 4 Tower workout to breathe and lubricate my shoulders. But just when I was about to start bam, I heard a piece of not so good news that brought me out of my center. Usually, when this happens, I have this butterfly feeling in my belly (not my favorite feeling). In the grand scheme of things, being centered should be our main focus. And I like the way Mark Nepo puts it.

“..returning to our center, our solid place of inborn knowing is only nourishing because it is through our core that we find our connection to the common Center of All Life.” See the link at the end of this post.

When we make an effort to stay calm, we can think and see clearly. It’s within this space that we find mental clarity.

In that particular moment, my brain did what it usually does; it went into a problem-solving mode. It needed to find a solution right here and right now.

It was now past ten minutes out of my precious workout, and my brain kept searching for the solutions. But thanks goodness that for some unknown reason, the wise part of me woke me up and out of this dilemma. I realized that at this moment, what’s important was to do what I intended to do – being on my equipment to breathe and move. Of course, I did share the news first with my husband, who calmed me down, and after that, I decided to drag myself on my Tower equipment to move, breathe, and get back to my center. It was not my best workout, but I managed to regain my focus.

This situation was not a life and death situation, so why let my head make me believe that it was so. Sounds familiar? How many times have you ditched your precious self-care time and zen brain moment? Your thoughts will always try to convince you that this ‘problem’ needs solving right now. In fact, we should learn not to let ourselves get agitated by any unprecedented situation. When we’re able to stay calm, we can think and see clearly. It’s within this space that we find mental clarity.

Mental clarity = solution.

Let’s face it; life is full of unprecedented news. We should learn to deal with them and not let them rob us of our happiness. My promise to myself is this – when a situation like this happens again, I will talk to myself not to let my thoughts disturb me. Because being out of my center means out of alignment. No good solution can come out when I am out of alignment.

So tell me, how do you bring yourself back to your center? Do you think it’s important to do it?
